Semi Perm Makeup
Semi permanent make up or SPMU is an established beauty procedure that is quite popular and most demanding among women today. In this procedure, permanent pigments are applied into the dermal layer of the skin in the form of tattooing and its effect lasts for several years. These pigments are usually made from inorganic and pure minerals and for this reason, it is entirely safe and risk free. Moreover, this beauty treatment has been medically approved and is carried out by expert technicians and cosmetic surgeons.
We currently only offer Eyebrow Cosmetics at the moment. We are looking to branch out to Lips and Eyes in the future but for now, we only offer eyebrow services like Microblading. Please see the price list for more information on the services we offer under SPMU.
What is SPMU (Semi Permanent Make Up)?
Semi-permanent makeup also known as micropigmentation, tattooing, microblading, eyebrow embroidery and SPMU is a cosmetic procedure which involves small amounts of pigment that is implanted into the dermal layer of your skin. Creating a natural appearance of tiny hair-strokes and colour for your brows, perfectly defined ‘liquid’ eyeliner and balanced, volumised lips. semi-permanent makeup is a brilliant option for women wanting 24hour smudge proof makeup and to wake up feeling made up.
It’s a very safe treatment option in the hands of fully trained technicians. The coloured pigment is hypo-allergenic, non-reactive and is made from natural iron oxide. It has been approved by doctors and aesthetic industry experts worldwide.
I use only the highest quality pigments available including Indelibeliner (Knightsbridge), Permablend & Phibrows. The pigments are available in a wide range of colours and once administered can last from 6 months and up to three years, this timescale is dependent on various factors including skintype and lifestyle.
Semi permanent makeup is a procedure that is suitable for brows, eyes and lips. Eyebrows are an important feature of your facial expressions. They frame your eyes and face as well as adding unique character. You can choose from a variety of techniques and style of brow to achieve the look you desire, including microbladed hairstrokes, powder, Ombre or combination brows. More information on the various style of brows can be found on the pricing page.
Your eyes can be given extra depth and definition with careful placement of pigmentation on either lower or upper eyelid or both. The eyelashes can be further enhanced with tiny amounts of dye between each eyelash. This will make them appear thicker. This is known as a lash enhancement.
Your lips can be emphasized and beautifully coloured to create the perfect lip blush. A light amount of pigment makes the lips appear larger and fuller and thus eliminating lipstick bleed. We can also correct any unevenness in your lips to create symmetry.
Semi permanent procedures require 2 treatments to complete the look, consisting of your initial procedure and your retouch appointment taken within 4-12 weeks after the first initial appointment. The first treatment can take up to 3 hours as I will take time to accurately measure and draw your eyebrows calculating the correct shape for your face and until you are happy. Only then will I proceed with your chosen treatment.
Everyone’s skin is different and it is important to me that we make this gradual process to obtain optimal results. This enables me to assess how your skin retains the pigment. Please do not compare your treatment to anyone that has had it before as for you it may be a totally different experience. Over this process I can make gradual adjustments to achieve the look you desire. Please be aware that a 3rd retouch appointment may be required as some people's skin is more resistant to that of others. The same applies to crispness of hairstrokes with brow treatments and that over time these strokes can blur slightly. This is not true to all skin types but this can happen.
Who is this for?
Semi-permanent makeup is a fantastic option for all women who want to wake up made-up and eliminate time spent on doing makeup, however, it’s particularly beneficial if you are:
People with no hair for instance; those with alopecia, thyroid conditions, if you have lost hair due to medical treatment for cancer and other illnesses or anyone who has over plucked their eyebrows.
A person with vision problems which can make it difficult to accurately apply makeup.
Allergies to the ingredients or fragrances of standard cosmetics found in stores.
A parent or someone who has a busy career with not much time to spend doing makeup.
Those interested in exercise such as running, swimming, high intensity training and sports where sweat and weather conditions can play havoc with lipstick, mascara or brow design.
What is semi-permanent makeup?
Semi-permanent makeup is a cosmetic technique where coloured pigment is applied to the dermal layer of your skin. The result is long lasting colour that resembles lightly applied makeup. This procedure is also known as permanent makeup, micropigmentation, SPMU or makeup tattooing. Microblading however is a technique using a manual blade to create a fine incision in the skin and then pigment is implanted.
What can I expect during a treatment?
First we start with a consultation. At this time we will discuss your desired semi-permanent makeup expecations. I'll then measure your facial features and 'draw on' a non-permanent test to ensure you will be happy with the results. We will then go through colours. Once we have agreed on the colour and shape, I'll begin your treatment using a sterile needle or microblade. Once we have completed the procedure, you will be provided with aftercare advice and healing balm to protect your skin. You may experience some slight swelling and redness after treatment but this will subside within 24-48 hours. Skin may feel sensitive as well in the treated area. The appointment itself takes approximately 2-3 hours, please allow 3 hours as this is a treatment that cannot be rushed. You'll then return 4-12 weeks later for a second appointment to top up any lost areas of pigment, adjust the colour and tweak the shape if necessary.
Does it hurt?
Most of my clients were surprised to find that there was not much pain, a few said it was a little painful at times. Everyone has a different level of pain so please don’t judge yourself on others. I will use anaesthetic creams during all stages of treatment to keep discomfort to a minimum. Whilst the semi-permanent makeup application is a form of tattooing, it's not as painful as this method. Most people describe the feeling as a scratching sensation with slight vibration. Throughout the procedure I will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible.
When will I see results?
After the first treatment the colour will look darker by 30-50%. This is to be expected and softens between 4-7 days. The treated areas might also appear dry and flaky after around 2 days but this won't be too noticeable. Again, this is normal as is a slight swelling directly after the procedure. During the healing process you might even notice the makeup tones fade quite considerably but this is temporary. After 4-6 weeks the true colour and result will take on its more permanent appearance. That's why a second appointment is made once everything has settled down and I can complete any areas that need balancing out or retouching. I can provide pictures of what to expect during this process for your reference.
How long does it last?
This will be down to a variety of factors including your lifestyle, your skintype, environmental factors and simple genetics. Most people find it lasts for a minimum of 6 months and anything up to 3 years. Refresher colour boosts every 12-18 months are recommended to keep the desired colour strength maintained.
Who would benefit from this?
Semi-permanent makeup is brilliant for many women. The treatment can be very gentle and understated or it can be strong and glamorous, depending on your tastes. Women who will benefit most include: Busy working mum,s who don't have a lot of time to worry about makeup each morning. Women who enjoy sports such as swimming, running or aerobics and want to look good all the time. Those with sparse hair growth or over plucked eyebrows lacking shape and definition. Ladies with eyesight difficulties for whom daily makeup application is difficult. Those who have experienced hair loss due to chemotherapy or alopecia.
Is it for everyone?
Semi-permanent makeup treatment is suitable for most women (and men). There are some exceptions however. Women with very oily skin or enlarged pores might find the procedure will be ineffective. Certain medical conditions also prevent treatment being allowed. During the initial consultation, all these factors will be discussed and you'll be assessed for your suitability.
